An order prohibiting the Berlin Jewish community campaign for funds for Jewish charities was issued today by the authorities, who declared that such a campaign would necessarily compete with the Nazi campaign for winter relief.
It is learned that the government contemplates the prohibition of all existing Jewish collection drives during the duration of the Nazi winter relief campaign, including drives for the Zionist funds, the Keren Hayesod, the Jewish Foundation Fund, and the Keren Kayemeth, the Jewish National Fund.
Today’s order also affects the Jewish community and the Central Committee of German Jews for Relief and Rehabilitation which had centralized the support for all Jewish relief activities all over Germany. Thus the relief body may find itself entirely dependent on foreign support for the maintenance of its work.
The Gemeindeblatt, organ of the Berlin Jewish community, announced today that an understanding had been reached with the Nazi relief authorities by which Jewish applicants for winter relief will submit their applications to the Jewish community, which will in turn transmit them to the Nazi relief headquarters. A joint committee of Nazis and representatives will consider the applications and pass upon them.
The Berlin Jewish community also announced that a further understanding had been reached with Nazi authorities enabling Jews donating free meals to the unemployed to specify that such meals are intended for Jews and not for Aryans
