The election of four Jews as members of the New Jersey Legislature was hailed by the Jewish community here. Leadership of the Assembly will probably be in the hands of a Jewish Assemblyman.
Joseph Altman, veteran legislator from Atlantic City, who has been majority leader in the Assembly this year, is favored for the speakership. Others elected were Herman Blank of Newark, Samuel Pesin of Jersey City and Harry L. Schoen of Paterson. candidate for City Council, was elected by a large plurality.
Among the Jewish office-holders are Dr. Alfred M. Glickman, of the school board; Abraham Cohn, deputy sheriff; Isadore Hurowitz, member of the license commission and Joseph Ascher, constable.
