Rabbi Pinchas Tietz, secretary to the Jewish delegation in the Latvian parliament, editor of the Riga, Orthodox Jewish daily, Unser Stimme, member of the executive of the Latvian boycott movement against Germany, and prominent in orthodox Jewish organizations in Latvia, is in New York to consult with orthodox Jewish youth groups in the United States.
“American Jewish youth, like Jewish youth all over the world, is manifesting great longing for traditional Judaism”, declared Rabbi Tietz. “True, this feeling has not been developed as yet. Leadership is needed to call it forth and give it form. And it is for this purpose that I have come to the United States, to talk with the orthodox youth of the country, to make plans for a campaign, and above all to lay the foundation for an all-world conference of orthodox Jewish youth, of all parties, to be held in Palestine in 1935.
“Jewish youth the world over must make an open affirmation of the ancient Jewish truths”, said the youthful Latvian rabbi, “for the Torah and the Jewish people, who are inseparably linked with the Torah, must fulfil their mission of implanting in the world, the basic Jewish ideas of righteousness and justice, which the Jew brought into the world.
“Recent events have strengthened the movement of Jewish youth back to their ancient heritage, and American Jewish youth, which has up to now been wandering in strange cultural fields, must return to the spiritual Jewish home-orthodoxy. The doors are open wide, ready to receive them”, declared Rabbi Tietz.
Rabbi Tietz expects to remain in the United States at least a year.
