For the first time in its history the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies failed to reach its objective in the annual campaign for funds.
A total of $266,169, or 85.3 percent of the campaign quota, was reached in what is considered one of the most strenuous campaigns in the history of local Jewish charities. The objective was $312,000.
Expressing regret at the inability to make the goal Lieutenant Colonel Philip Abbey, chairman of this year’s drive, stated that the Federation will now be forced to curtail its activities.
