Rabbi Israel Goldstein of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, author and Zionist leader, has been named president of the Jewish National Fund of America. He succeeds Nelson Ruttenberg, counsel for the New York State Board for Alcoholic Beverage Control, who tendered his resignation on account of the pressure of other duties.

Mr. Ruttenberg reported that during the past two years, the sum of $407,803.35 had been raised by popular small coin collections for the work of the organization.

Rabbi Goldstein issued a statement which said in part:

“At this time, when the German situation has brought a new and unexpected wave of immigration into Palestine, the Jewish National Fund holds a strategic place from the standpoint both of Zionist and humanitarian endeavor. It offers immediately a foothold to those German Jews who have not the means to establish themselves.

Gratitude for his effort in behalf of the Jewish National Fund was extended by members of the Board to Mr. Ruttenberg.

Other officers named include Rabbi Z. H. Masliansky, honorary president; Louis Rimsky, treasurer; Rabbi I. M. Kowalsky, associate treasurer; Isaac H. Rubin, secretary. The administrative committee includes Morris Margolies, Harry Karp, Louis Segal, David Wertheim, Nelson Ruttenberg, Louis P. Rocker, Samuel Fishman, Leib Glantz, Joseph Beder and Abe Spicehandler.
