The decision of the Zionist Organization of America to use a sum of $40,000 bequeathed to it, to establish a colony of Jewish veterans who fought under General Allenby in the taking of Palestine, was hailed by the president of the American Palestine Jewish Legion, Dr. Jacob M. Ravid, who declared that this would ensure the establishment of a colony of American Jewish Legionnaires in Palestine.
“The veterans of the Jewish Legion,” said Dr. Ravid, “fought under General Allenby, contributed to the conquest of Palestine from the Turks, but they were never granted any bounty, bonus or compensation from the British or any other government. This decision of the American Zionists is an achievement of the first magnitude and is further enhanced by its pledge made at the same meeting to raise the balance of the first $100,000 to constitute the Jewish Legion Fund, which will commemorate the name of the Jewish Legion and its contribution to Palestine.”
Mrs. Rebecca Zundelwitz of Texas left the money to the Zionist Organization of America to be disposed of as the organization saw fit.
