One dollar from every Jew in the United States which is to be used by the Religious Reconstruction Fund for the purpose of providing relief for needy Jews and Jewish institutions, is being sought by the organization. Rabbi Herbert S. Goldstein, chairman, announced that the fund had established headquarters at 276 Fifth Avenue and that officers had been chosen.
The fund drive, sponsored by orthodox rabbis, also is reported to have the support of other groups among the Jews. Among the first contributors were Gov. Herbert H. Lehman, Ludwig Vogelstein, chairman of the board of the Union of American Hebrew congregations; Max Silverstein, grand master of the Independent Order of B’rith Abraham and others prominent in public affairs.
