The first brewery in Palestine is being erected at Rishon 1e Zion, the Palestine correspondent of Ndustrial and Engieering Chemistry, publication of the American Cheralical Society, reports.
A French firm which has brewing interests in Asia and Afrifca is backing the enterprise.
JEWISH WOMEN’S COUNCIL DEMOUNCES BIG NAVY BILL
In a telegram to Mabel Vernon, campaign director of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, Mrs Mary G. Schonberg, executive secretary of the National Council of Jweish Women, said:
“Nothing has happened in Washington in months so disturbing to friends of peace as the administration’s attitude on the big navy bill which permits such tremendous expenditure of funds at a time when there is such a need for conserving our resources.”
The 200 sections of the council are preparing to agitate against the bill.
MME. SHAKNOVE DIES
Funeral servlces for Mme. Beulah Philo Shacknove, voice teacher, who died in Beth Moses Hospital on Wednesday, were held Friday afternoon. She was 43 years old and lived at 140 West 71st street, Manhattan, and is survived by a daughter Rita, two sisters and two brothers.
GRAHAM DANCE RECITAL
Martha Graham will appear in a solo program at the Guild Theatre tonight at 8:45, marking the first solo performance in New York in six years. Her propgram will include two new dance numbers.
BALLET RUSSE PERFORMS
On March 9, according to an announcement from S. Hurok, the Monte Carlo Ballet Russe, returning from a tour, will being an engagement at the St. James Theatre, where the company ended a record run of almost eight weeks last Wednesday.
