The Federation of Jewish Women’s Organizations, Inc. of Greater New York will meet in convention at the Hotel Astor on January 30, according to an announcement by Mrs. David E. Goldfarb, president. The meeting will discuss problems of international Jewry and listen to speeches. About 200 organizations are to be represented at the convention.
COUNCIL EXECUTIVE
The national executive committee of the board of directors of the National Council of Jewish Women will meet at national headquarters, 625 Madison Avenue, on January 12th. Mrs. Arthur Brin, national president, will address the meeting.
MRS. BRIN GUEST SPEAKER
Mrs. Brin will be the guest speaker of the Philadelphia section on January 9th, and of the Newark section on January 10th. Preceding her meeting in Philadelphia, she will represent the National Council at the first annual meeting of the National Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, at the Standard Club in Chicago, January 6th and 7th.
STATE CONFERENCE
The New York State Conference of the National Council is planning an interesting program in connection with its next convention, to be held at Syracuse, on April 15th-17th. Other state conferences which are planning special programs are New Jersey and Texas.
FREE SYNAGOGUE MEETING
The Women’s Organization of the Free Synagogue will hold an open meeting Tuesday, January 9, at Carnegie Hall. Langdon W. Post, Tenement House Commissioner, will speak on “Rebuilding New York, the program of the administration.”
IVRIAH TO GIVE TEA
Ivriah, women’s division of the Jewish Education Association, will give a tea on Tuesday afternoon, January 16. at the Hotel Waldorf Astoria. Speakers will include James Waterman Wise, editor of Opinion, and Professor James O. Gifford of Columbia University, who will discuss the subject “A Gentile Views Anti-Semitism.” Mrs. Samuel Steiner, of 70 Fifth Avenue, is chairman of the arrangements and is in charge of the sale of tickets.
BENSONHURST IVRIAH
The Bensonhurst district of Ivriah will hold a membership rally on Monday evening, January 8, at 8 o’clock at the Jewish Community House on Bay Parkway and 79th St. Members of the Mothers’ Clubs of several Public Schools of the neighborhood will be guests. There will be interesting speakers, and a musical program. This group of women is also working enthusiastically for the Annual Tea which will take place on Tuesday afternoon, January 22, at the Hotel St. George for the benefit of its Scholarship and Kindergarten Funds.
WOMEN’S EDUCATION CONFERENCE
Over 600 organizations will send delegates to the “Jewish Women’s Education Conference” on Sunday, January 14th at Temple Emanu-El, Fifth Ave. & 65th Street.
The general problem of adult Jewish education and the special problem of Jewish women’s education will be discussed. Dr. Trude Weiss Rosmarin, founder and director of The School of the Jewish Woman, will preside.
CONVENTION WILL FOSTER SABBATH OBSERVANCE
A convention will be attended by delegates representing about forty synagogues from all over Long Island for the purpose of considering ways and means of increasing Sabbath observance in line with the NRA five-day week. The meeting will be held Sunday, January 14, at Temple Gates of Prayer in Flushing.
Rabbi Milton Steinberg, of the Park Avenue Synagogue, and Mrs. Edward Epstein will speak.
