The warnthat “100,000 Brown Shirts” will hold their own elections and seize the reigns of power in Montreal, was made by a Fascist delegation which waited on Premier L. A. Taschereau, in the local government offices. The delegation was composed of the Chief Fascist, J. Anaclet Chalifoux, his aide-de-camp, P. Z. Delcourt, and their Engineer – in – chief, Seraphim Ouimet, the acknowledged leaders of the Fascist Labor Clubs in the province of Quebec.
The delegation demanded municipal elections in April, hinting that such an event would see a “Fascist government in Montreal.” In the name of the delegation Chalifoux added: “If our rights are not respected 100,000 Fascisti in the metropolis will hold their own elections, will elect a mayor and as many aldermen as are necessary, and will take over government of the City of Montreal.”
The Premier rebuked the delegation with the fellowing remarks: “I do not understand how people such as you, who say that you respect law and order, can say that you will take over the government in Montreal by such strong-arm tactics. You are wrong in making this threat; you are wrong in talking thus; I would advise you not to persist along this path.”
Reliable sources have it that the Fascists will support the mayoralty candidature of Alderman Henri Auger, who has become notorious as Jew-baiter and sponsor of the anti-Semitic immigration resolution in the City Hall.
