An organization adequate to insure kashruth in Detroit will be formed here by a council of local synagogues organized as result of a series of meetings held under the chairman Rabbi A. M. Hershman.
Definite decision to form such a central organization was reached at a meeting of representatives of twenty-two synagoues held at Congregation Shaarey Zedek. Findings and recommendations of a survey committee on the kashruth question were submitted to this meeting. The survey committee cnsists of Maurice H. Zackheim, J. K. Smith and Ben. F. Goldman. This committee was empowered to hire a man to conduct the desired survery. Following submission of the report the committee states:
“In view of our findings, the committee feels that it is absolutely necessary for the synagoues of Detroit to form an organization adequate to insure kashruth for the community.”
The first of the recommendations adopted by the meetig calls for the organization of synagogues. A copy of the findings and recommeddations of hte committee has been sent to each synagogue. All congreations are asked to select official delegates, who will constitute the Kashruth Council of Detroit, at an organizations meeting at the Shaarey Zedek on Wednesday. January 31. At this meeting the delegates will elect their officers and board of directors, and the officially chosen spokesmen will then call a conference of rabbis, schochtim, wholesalers and butchers to discuss the kashruth problems that have arisen here.
