SCHOOL PRINCIPAL HEADS SEASHORE FUND DRIVE
Leon S. Kaiser, principal of P. S. 188 in Coney Israel, has accepted the chairmanship of the Seashore Front Division of the $2,000,000 Natiional Emergency Campaign for the Settlement of German Jews in Palestine, Nathan Straus, Jr, chairman of the local division, announced yestereday.
Mr. Kaiser, a well known figure in Broklyn communal and educational activities, will cooperate with Aaron William Levy, chairmen of the Brooklyn chapter of the campaign.
In accepting the chairmanship of the Seashore Front campaign, Mr. Kaiser said that no member of the Jewish community could remain indifferent while thousands of German Jews were "clamoring for an avenue of escape from the medieval perscution and oppression practiced by the Nazis. Palestine supplies tha mosteffective solution to the the problem,"he said.
YOUNG JUDEA MEELING ELECTS NEW OFFICERS
The first meeting this year of the Judean League, constituent organization of Young Judea, a junior Zionist movement in America, was held at the Hotel Cameron.
Pierre Van Paassen discussed the subject "The Jews and the European Seene."
The Judean League is now concentrating its efforts in training leaders for Young Judea clubs, as well as providing cultural opportunities in music, literature and art. A membership campaign is under way.
Through its 700 branches throughout the country, Young Judea has for the past 25 years been engaged intraining Jewish children in character, citizenship, and self-development.
SCHWAB FUNERAL TODAY FROM LATE RESIDENCE
Mrs. Schwab was born in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Solomon Adler, who was president of Temple Emanu-EI in that city and later one of the founders of the New York temple that bears that same name. Like her late husband, the prominent cotton converter, who died in 1923, she was a generous supporter of many philanthropies.
Mrs. Schwab is survived by a daughter, Mrs. L. Victor Weil, wife of the president of Lebanon Hospital, the pet philanthropy of the deceased.
Three-fourths of the Schwab estate now goes to Mrd. Weil. Sidney S. Schwab, her son, left his estate to his mother when he died in 1930. The rest of the principal goes to the foundation established in his name for charitable purposes.
RABBI JACOBS WILL LECTURE AT SISTERHOOD OF THE TEMPLE
Rabi Robert P.Jacobs will give an illustrated lecture on "My Year in Palestine"before the Sisterhood of the Temple of the Covenant Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Rabbi Jacobs will show slides printed from photographs which he took in the Holy land.
The meeting wil be held in the Vestry Room of the Temple at 612 West 180th Street.
KRAELING TO SPEAK
Professor Carl H. kraeling, of Yale University. Will deliver a lecture on "The Oldest Synagogue in the World" at the Juillard School of Music, 130 Claremont Avenue, Bronx, next Tuesday evening, February 6. The lecture will be under the auspices of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America.
WOOLWORTH MANAGER IN BRIGHTON BEACH DENIES INSULTING LOCAL JEWS
Members of the Brighton Beach International Workers Club, whose headquarters are at 3200 Coney Island Avenue, claimed they heard Mr. Smith make that staterment. Tentative plans for a meeting to force Mr. Smith to retract the alleged statement or leave Brighton were being drawn up at the club.
The bitter controversy raging in the neighbouhood came to a climax a few days ago when eleven men, mostly students, were arrested for participating in a demonstration in front of the store.
