First translation of the Mishenah, second century commentary on the Jewish laws, consisting of various applications of that law, written or oral, to life, has been translated into English by Canon Herbert Danby and will be published by the Oxford University Press on Thursday, the press announced yesterday.
Despite the importance of the Mishnah and the fact that in Jewish eyes it ranks second only to the Scriptures, it has never before been translated into English. The traslator, Canon Danby, is canon residentiary of St. George’s Cathedral in Jerusalem. He is a Hebrew scholar of note and translated Professor Joseph Klausner’s much discussed book, “Jesus of Nazareth.”
