Paterson’s campaign to aid the German Jews started last night with a huge mass meeting held in the auditorium of the Y.M.Y.W.H.A. The drive, for $15,000 entends until February 22.
Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, national chairman of the fund raising committee, scheduled to be the principal speaker, was forced to cancel the engagement because of illness. A dinner in his honor was also cancelled by the Paterson committee.
David M. Bressler, member of the executive committee of the Joint Distribution Committee, was the main speaker, painting a vivid picture of conditions in Germany and exhorting the 500 enrolled workers to canvass every Jew in the city for funds for this national campaign.
Other speakers heard at the meeting were Judge Filbert L. Rosenstein, chairman of the Paterson committee; Charles H. Roemer, president of the Jewish Community Council Jacob Massel, vice-president of the Hias, and Dr. Rudolph Kornbluth. Yiddish music was featured during the speech interludes. Cantor Martin Adolf, of the Temple Emanuel, was heard in several selections.

Rabinowitz; Secretaries: Martha Fineman, Mildred Bornstein, and Sarah Schlenger.
