The primary problem before the Southern Conference of Jewish Agencies here was the necessity for the adjustment of Jewish social work to the changing social and economic conditions. The era of denominational isolation in charity is a thing of the past, according to the majority opinion of the speakers. Mrs. Arthur G. Jacobs, general chairman of the conference, opened the session. Mayor Overton left a sick bed to welcome the visitors.
Dr. I. M. Rubinow of Cincinnati, secretary of the National B’nai B’rith, speaking on “An Approach to Jewish Communal Responsibilities” said: “Jewish communities are under the responsibility of educating American people as a whole to the standards of good will, and they have a right to preserve their existence as applied to religion and culture. Geoge W. Rabinoff of New York, executive director of the National Council of Jewish Federation of Welfare funds, presided at the afternoon session.
