Unprecedented action was taken here by the Chief Rabbi of Amsterdam when he lifted the ban against tinned meat which the government had prepared in large quantities for the unemployed.
Because tinned meat is not kosher, Jewish unemployed were heretofore barred from benefiting by the government’s provision. The crisis among them became so severe, however, and affected the Jewish population so seriously that the Chief Rabbi found it advisable to declare the tinned meat suitable for use by Jews.
