Employed by the Nazis as one of the “front” men in the German Embassy at London is the current Prince Bismarck, a descendant of the famed Iron Chancellor. The prince industriously repeats, on almost every occasion, the Nazi allegations about the Jews almost by rote.
The prince recently met a prominent American publisher, a non-Jew, how temporatily in London, with whom he discussed Nazi accomplishments in Gemany. He spoke glowingly of the great achievement in purging the German press of its Jewish domination and control and of the harnessing of the harnessing of the press to “constructive” purposes only by the government.
Apparently oblivious of the fact that his auditor was a man who had directed more than one crusade in the interests of truth and personal liberty and is widely known as one of the sterned defenders of the freddom of the press, Prince Bismarck chided him because the American press remained the American press remained under Jewish domination and control and warned him confidentially that all the big papers and the news agencies had been sold out to the Jews.
The impression he made, judging by the remarkes of the publisher somewhat later, was not exactly what the prince’s Nazi employers had bought, paid, and hoped for.
Col Stewart Roddie, speaking in this city last week on the German situation, sharply attacked the Eastern European Jews whom he charged responsibility for the rise of anti-Semitism in the Reich. This argument, used by Nazi apologists almost as frequently as the allegation that the Jews are responsible for communism, is, of course, fallacious. Hitlerism directs itself chiefly against the German Jews, the Jew who, through assimilation, gained power and wealth and a place in the German seene. Anti-Semitism today is based mainly on the economic aspect. It is the assimilated Jews who is the principal target of anti-Smeitic attacks. To eliminate the Jew who gained himself prestige in the free professions, the theatre, art and the cinema has been their real aim-the removal of all Jewish influence in Geman culture. In all of these walks of life it is the German, and not the Eastern European Jew, who has played the predominating role.
Col. Roddie is a Britisher. He has been lecturing in the country for some time before influential clubs and other organizations. He has not been in Germany since Hitler came to power but knows pre-Hitler Germany intimately. He is a close firend of many members of the German nobility and of the former Kaiser. He is socially prominent in Enland and on a recent visit to this country was guest at the home of a mem. ber of J. P. Morgan’s family.
The Daybood recently spoke of Mr. Leslie Hore-belisha who yesterday was reported in the cables as being prominently mentioned for a British cabinet post. This comparative youngster (as statecraft considers age) is coming to be known as Brithain’s “second Disraeli.” He is at present Finalcial Secretary of the Treasury.
