A man-sized job was placed on the shoulders of Mrs. Archibald J. Freiman of Canada, national president of the Canadian Hadassah when she was appointed chairman of the United Palestine Appeal Campaign. But Mrs. Freiman has in the past proven her ability ## tackle man-sized jobs successfully.
King George recently bestowed the Order of the British Empire upon Mrs. Freiman for her notable philanthropic activities in Canada. She was the first Canadian woman to be honored by the King of England with the O. B. E.
During the World War, when the victims of the Ukrainian pogroms appealed to the Canadian government to permit the immigration to Canada of one thousand Jewish pogrom orphans, it was Mrs. Freiman who thrust aside the seemingly insurmountable obstacle of strict immigration regulations and personally called on the Prime Minister of Canada to have the bars raised. The bars were finally raised–upon her husband’s personal guarantee that these children would not become public charges.
Mrs. Freiman is probably the most popular woman in Canada today, combining great abilities as an organizer and executive with feminine charm and simplicity.
