Books by Jewish authors will be banned from the Austrian libraries just as they were banished from the libraries of Germany, it was reported today by the Volksbildungblaetter, official organ of the General Lower Austrian People’s Education Societies. The paper listed the works of Author Schnitzler, Jacob Wassermann, Stefan Zweig, Franz Werfel, Max Brod and Lion Feuchtwanger as among those of Jewish writers to be thrown out of the libraries of Austria.
This decision followed a report drawn up by a specially appointed committee “to exclude undesirable books and authors from Austrian libraries.” The report was submitted to the municipality of Vienna.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
