The effort of the Jewish community here to raise $200,000 for the United Jewish Appeal of the Joint Distribution Committee and the American Palestine Campaign was launched tonight with a workers’ meeting at the Boston City Club. Joseph C. Hyman, honorary secretary of the United Jewish Appeal, was principal speaker.

Emphasizing that large funds must be made available to enable the Jews within Germany to reconstruct their lives, Mr. Hyman also declared that the place of Palestine in absorbing a substantial number of refugees is also being adequately considered in the program of the Appeal, which has a national goal of $3,000,000.

Louis E. Kirstein is honorary chairman of the Boston campaign, and Judge Jacob J. Kaplan is chairman. The vice-chairmen are: Ralph Bass, A. K. Cohen, Mrs. Carl Dreyfus, Mrs. Ely Feibelman, Mrs. Hyman Freiman, Mrs. Lewis Goldberg, Casper M. Grossberg, Milton Kahn, Leon S. Medalie, Ben M. Selekman, Max Shoolman, J. L. Wiseman and Francis S. Wyner Sydney Dreyfus is treasurer.

The workers gathered at tonight’s conference represented all elements of the community. They decided to inaugurate the Boston fund-raising effort officially with a city-wide dinner to be held on April 22.
