The Jewish World, owned and published by Jacob Ginsburg for the past twenty years, today became the property of the Fleisher Byer Company, organized as successors to the Jewish World Publishing Company.
Nathan Fleisher, for many years managing editor of the paper, becomes publisher and managing editor, with Jacob Ginsburg as consulting editor. Benjamin Byer, local attorney, is president of the new corporation, with Dr. Joseph A. Langbord as chairman of the board; Isador Gottlieb, treasurer; Jacob L. Brown, secretary, and Leon Meltzer, counsel. The names of the vice-presidents and the complete personnel of the board will be announced shortly.
In a statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Fleisher explained that the Jewish World will be independent politically and will uphold Jewish nationalism as expressed in the Zionist movement.
“The disappearance of Yiddish in America,” Mr. Fleisher declared, “is highly overestimated. There is a large element of Yiddish-reading people in this country. This element includes many who read English papers as well. However, Yiddish is closer to them, for they find in Yiddish a greater kinship to those forces which constitute Jewish life.”
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
