Solomon Levitan, former Progressive Republican state treasurer for many years and a popular figure in Wisconsin, has been proposed by friends as a director of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to succeed the late Sen. John J. Blaine, who died recently.

A banker and a power in the ranks of the Progressives, Levitan started out his career in Wisconsin with a pack on his back, selling small household articles to farmers throughout the state. His humor, good nature and colorful personality brought him great popularity among Wisconsin farmers. He has been active in the B’nai B’rith and other Jewish undertakings.
