The first Polish conference of the Friends of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, meeting here yesterday adopted a series of resolutions urging support of the efforts to build up the institution as a spiritual and cultural influence.
The resolutions express recognition of Chancellor Judah L. Magnes and Dr. Chaim Weizmann, chairman of the board of trustees of the university, for “their devoted work to establish and develop a Jewish university.”
Another resolution urged the adoption of all possible measures to maintain the existing faculties of the university and also urged the creation of new faculties in pedagogics, agconomy and chemistry, which the conference declared was essential in order to strengthen the spiritual and cultural influence of the Hebrew University in the Diaspora.
The conference also adopted a resolution urging the board of governors of the university to find ways and means for carrying out the resolution adopted and asked the board to include in its membership representatives of the largest and most active groups working for the interests of the university in Palestine, the United States and Poland.
The conference asked Chancellor Magnes to appoint an appropriate representation for Poland and undertook to donate not less than £2,000 for the university by November 1.
