At the election of officers to the Jewish Students’ Society of Columbia University the organization bade farewell to Rabbi Baruch Braunstein, who recently resigned as counselor of Jewish students at Columbia.
The retiring Rabbi Braunstein was paid honor again by the Jewish Graduate Students’ Society at a farewell reception at the Casa Italiana. Yesterday the Barnard chapter of Menorah met in tribute to him.
In addressing the Jewish Students Society Rabbi Braunstein said, "If a movement like Hitlerism ever comes to America it will mean the end of America’s contributions to world culture. Remember when you enter professional life that you will be judged not so much as individuals as you will be judged as Jews." Father Ford, Catholic chaplain on the campus, paid tribute to the rabbi in a short address at the meeting.
Those elected to serve the Jewish Student Society as officers during the coming semester are; President, Sidney Lichtenberg, class of ’35; Vice-president, Morton Miller, ’35; Secretary, Charles Brand, ’37, and Treasurer, Arnold Saltzman, ’36.
