Harry P. Fierst, national treasurer of the Zionist Organization of America, today announced that James G. McDonald, League of Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, who will arrive in New York Thursday aboard the Rex, is expected to visit Westchester County Jewry either June 3rd or 10th.
Mr. Fierst declared Commissioner McDonald will speak at a county-wide dinner in County Center. White Plains, in connection with the Westchester Division drive for $50,000 in the United Jewish Appeal.
LEHMAN HOPES TO ATTEND
Felix M. Warburg, Westchester resident and one of the national drive officials, has already signified his intention of speaking at the dinner, Mr. Fierst said. Governor Lehman has sent word that he will attend if not prevented by official business. Mark Eisner, Westchester chairman, will preside and non-Jews will be invited.
The Zionist District of Mount Vernon and twenty affiliated Jewish organizations have passed the $5,000 mark in their effort to attain a goal of $15,000. Dr. Elias Margolis, rabbi of Temple Emanu-El here and president of the American Rabbinical Assembly, addressed the most recent gathering of workers.
YONKERS OPENS DRIVE
Another rally will be held Thursday night at Free Synagogue of Westchester, Rabbi Max Maccoby and the three co-chairmen, Mr. Fierst, Edgar A. Pollack and Henry Y. Schooner will speak.
Former State Senator Nathan Straus Jr., State Director of the National Emergency Council, will open the drive in Yonkers tonight. Senator Straus will speak at the Jewish Community Center. Yonkers Jews have set themselves a quota of $2,500.
