Nazi Explosion Razes Jewish Writer’s Villa

Download PDF for this date

A Nazi bomb yesterday destroyed the “Schratt Villa,” one of the most beautiful in Austria, which formerly belonged to Katarina Schratt, favorite of Emperor Franz Joseph, and is now the property of Fritz Loehner, noted Jewish playwright whose pseudonym is “Beda.”

The “Schratt Villa” is one of two destroyed at Bad-Ischl by Nazi bombs, which are being set off in many parts of Austria. Although no one was wounded in the villa bombings, three children were hurt as a result of such incidents in Vienna.

In an effort to curb the attacks, a hundred Nazis have been arrested. The necessity of making room for them is thought to be responsible for the release of eighty Socialist concentration camp prisoners.
