The Film and Photo League and Anti-Nazi Federation of New York yesterday resumed picketing in front of the Yorkville Theatre, where the German propaganda film, S. A. Mann Brand, is showing, hoping in this way to discourage the showing of Fascist propaganda pictures here.
The Nazi film depicts the alleged experiences of stormtrooper Mann Brand, who is supposed to have fought with Hitler during the Fuehrer’s struggle for power. The theme is identical with that of countless propaganda pictures which many governments show to advance their interests, glorify themselves and besmirch the opposition.
It is said that a theatre owner in the vicinity of New York was offered $5,000 to show the picture. The offer came from promoters of the film, the story goes, and was considered a generous offer in as-much as the limited seating capacity of the house could not get the owners that profit, even in the event of an abnormally long run.
