The grand prize of twenty-five dollars of the first annual short story contest for high school seniors of the metropolitan area, conducted by the Washington Square College of New York University, was awarded to Abraham Weber, Abraham Lincoln High School student, according to an announcement by Professor H. A. Watt, chairman of the English Department.
Six prizes of five dollars each were also given. Included among the recipients were Beatrice Epstein of Girls High School and Kathryn Smul of Washington Irving High School.
The awards are to be made Friday evening at the New York University Faculty Club, Washington square, by Dean Milton E. Loomis.
SINGER, WEINBERG WINNERS
Winners of two undergraduate literary contests at City College were announced yesterday by Professor Harry C. Krowl, head of the English department. They are Maxwell Singer, who won the Ralph Weinberg Memorial prize for writing the best poem in heroic couplets on “The Forgotten Man,” and Matthew Marmor.
Both awards will be made at Commencement exercises on June 20, Dr. Krowl said.
ROSENFELD AWARDED TRIP
Solomon Rosenfeld, sophomore at City College, has been awarded a free trip to Italy by the Casa Italiana, according to an announcement by Dean Morton Gottschall. His interest in the study of Italian was first aroused while he was at De Witt Clinton High School.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
