The summer residence of Max Reinhardt, German-Jewish theatrical producer, was the target for bombs thrown supposedly by Nazis. The extent of the damage done the dwelling, situated in Salzburg, was not reported. Police have arrested three suspects.
All Reinhardt theatres were liquidated early in March in accordance with an order issued by Nazi Minister of Propaganda Goebbels, who decreed that Jews were to be ousted from the German theatre. Reinhardt’s brother-in-law, Hermann Rosenberg, was dismissed from an administrative post in the Deutsche Theatre.
Since this and other incidents perpetrated by Nazis against him, Reinhardt has directed plays in various European capitals. In recognition of his services in the art of drama the Golden Order of Merit was awarded him by the Austrian government.
