Representatives of the Jewish community here appeared before authorities yesterday morning in connection with the violent attacks on Jews in the Powonzki district of Warsaw Friday evening, following a religious procession, by bands of Nara (National Radical) hooligans.
At that time several Jewish shops, a bakery and a Jewish library were demolished. Jechezkiel Delman, thirty-five, was seriously wounded and died in the Jewish Hospital yesterday. Many terrorized Jews fled to the center of the city.
The authorities assured the delegation that stern measures have been taken, with seven attackers already arrested and arrests still continuing.
Jews who fled can now return without fear, authorities told the delegation, as the Jewish quarter is under heavy guard by police patrols.
A report in the Kurjer Lod### tells of youths of the town of Wielun surrounding neighboring villages and forcing Jewish inhabitants to leave under threats of violence. Police called to scenes of trouble arrested about twelve of the youths inciting against the Jews. Meanwhile many Jews in rural districts are moving to larger centers.
For the second time within the past few days the Warsaw Bulletin of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency has been confiscated, presumably because it contained the statement of the executive of the Jewish community regarding anti-Semitic excesses.
Five Naras here were sentences to six months’ imprisonment each, following clashes with police, after Naras had attacked Jews. T### were promptly arrested. The co### room was filled with the radica### who demonstrated on behalf of the defendants.
