The new Jewish weekly entitled “World Jewry,” which is now being published here, commented as follows on the subject of physical development in connection with the Jewish people:

“The redemption of Israel must be accomplished by Israel. Help and understanding may come from the nations, but the achievements must come from the Jewish people. The physical side of this task is in some measure no less important than the moral and intellectual.

“The Maccabi undertook this task with an admirable elan and started work some thirty years ago. An association of young Jews devoted themselves to athletics and also to the idea of physical improvement of their people. They undertook the special task of the physical and mental regeneration of the Jewish people with a view to creating a new, strong and powerful Jew. The Maccabi youth has been systematically trained to endure the hard life of the Diaspora, to become good citizens of their country and also to go through hardships which are expected by those who go to Palestine.

“This program is justified by the amazing and wonderful success which has become achieved all over the world where Maccabi organizations exist.”
