An impressive memorial meeting for Chaim Nachman Bialik, Hebrew poet laureate who died Wednesday in Vienna, was held here this afternoon in the open air theatre at the Hebrew University on Mt-Scopus. Among the high dignitaries present were High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope, the Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem, the commanding officer of the British Air Forces in Palestine, and high officials of the army, police and the visiting British fleet.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Requiem Lacrimosa” was sung by the Palestine Oratorio Company in honor of the dead poet.

The High Commissioner was received by a group of Jewish notables among whom were David Ben Gurion and Joshua Gordon, of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, and by Julian Meltzer, who represented the Hebrew University.

The body of Bialik is now being transported to Palestine from Vienna. A national Jewish funeral will be accorded the poet in Palestine.
