Describing Hitler as an enemy of humanity, John Callahan of Milwaukee, officer of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, declared Hitler “must be removed in the interests of civilization.” He spoke at a district gathering of the Knights in Madison.

“In crushing the independence of the German people with an iron hand, Adolf Hitler is taking innocent lives in Germany.” Callahan said. “In a mad frenzy he is murdering suspects innocent of any crime whatsoever.

“The Catholic church in Germany is patriotic but it must condemn the mad policies of a man like Hitler. Rulers in any country who work against religion are working for the destruction of civilization. Such a ruler must be declared an enemy of humanity and must be destroyed for the good of civilization.”
