A bitter attack on the Tsaldaris government was launched in the Senate here yesterday by former Cabinet Minister Jassonides, a leader in the Venizelist faction, who accused the government of having surrendered the city of Salonica to the Jews in exchange for the votes required to defeat the Venizelist slate and return the government party to power.
Jassonides based his attack on the action of the Tsaldaris government in abolishing the special electoral college for Jews in Salonica and permitting the Jews to vote in the general election. The Venizelist spokesman asserted that by this means the 8,000 Jews, voting with the 120,000 other Greek citizens in the general election, were enabled to swing the election against the Venizelist anti-Semitic bloc.
The deputy launched a tirade against the Jews, accusing them of having asked the commandant of the Austrian fleet to intervene against the Greeks in 1912.
A plot by Venizelists against the government to set up a dictatorship by General Plastyras was reported from Salonica.
