Two large New York banks have severed connections with the Dresdner Bank of Danzig, which is Nazi-controlled, as a result of a complaint lodged by the Non-Sectarian Anti-Nazi league, it was announced by the League yesterday.
According to information received by the League from the Central Anti-Hitler Committee of Poland and the Central Association of Merchants of Warsaw, the two New York banks had been transmitting money from the United States to clients in Poland, many of them Jews, through the Nazi bank.
When the matter was brought to the attention of the American banks by Ezekiel Rabinowitz, executive secretary of the League, it was explained that the services of the Dresdner bank had to be used for some time after the Hitler regime came into power because of a contract, but that since the expiration of the contract the business has been turned over to American agencies and their Polish correspondent.
The New York banks in question are understood to be two of the largest in the city, but for business reasons have requested that their names be withheld.
