“Chameleons of Jewry” are considered by G. Welter, French author and essayist, as the crux of the problem of anti-Semitism in an article of that title in the September issue of The Modern Thinker.” Mr. Welter writes:
“As for the crypto-Jews, those who are assimilated in appearance but not at heart, only utmost frankness will cut the Gordian knot of hypocrisy which has formed around them. The hypocrisy is mutual. The ‘Aryan’ pretends to ignore that it is a Jew he is dealing with, while the Jew pretends to believe in the ‘Aryan’s’ ignorance. Hence the constraint in their relations. However, since the Jew is very often tactless, he usually reveals just that which he would like to hide. The comedy provokes the indignation of all honest Jews, even the assimilated ones.
“The suppression of these chameleons of Jewry is an urgent task. They must be forced to take off a mask which does not deceive anybody and is the principal reason for their being baited in the western countries.”
