Jonas Turkov, Jewish actor and stage director, has been invited to play one of the principal roles in a new Polish motion picture called “The Young Generation.” The invitation is the first ever extended to a Jewish actor by Polish film officials.
Turkov made his first appearances on the Jewish stage in 1917, usually in companies headed by his brother Sigmund, who founded the “Warsaw Jewish Comedy and Drama Theatre.” In 1924 Jonas Turkov was one of the actors in the Jewish movie “The Pledge” and played the principal role in “The Saint” in 1925.
Jonas Turkov also translated a number of theatrical works, published a brochure entitled “Guide for Dramatic Circles” (1924) and is the author of a number of articles on the theatre. He was also one of the editors of “The Jewish Stage,” organ of the Jewish Actors’ League of Poland.
