While Germany writhed in the toils of an unprecedented economic crisis brought on by disastrous crop failures and a world-wide boycott in protest against Nazi anti-Semitism, Adolf Hitler today continued the pretense that the cards in Sunday’s plebiscite are not to be dealt from the bottom of a “cold” deck.

Der Fuehrer crowned concerted Nazi efforts to bludgeon 43,000,000 German citizens into voting favorably on Hitler’s projected seizure of the late Reichspresident von Hindenburg’s presidential powers by addressing a placidly receptive and bovine-like audience in Hamburg City Hall tonight. His speech was broadcast over a nation-wide Reich hook-up.
