Mexico Not Anti-semitic, Deutsch Says

Bernard S. Deutsch, president of the Board of Aldermen of New York City and of the American Jewish Congress, today confirmed reports that he had discussed Jewish problems with former President Plutarco Elias Calles, Mexico’s “strong man.”

In an interview with the press prior to his departure for New York, Deutsch said he believed anti-Semitism in Mexico was not supported by the government but was merely the tool of certain “ambitious groups” seeking to use the campaign against the Jews as “a political ladder.”

Deutsch declared he was convinced the government of Mexico is friendly to his co-religionists and that anti-Semitism in Mexico “will die in its cradle.”
