The High Commissioner has assured Henrietta Szold, head of the Social Welfare Department of the Vaad Leumi, Mrs. R. McInnes, widow of the former Anglican Bishop and now a welfare worker, a Christian, and Mme. Ruhi Bey Abdul Hadi, wife of a senior government official, a Moslem, who visited him, that the government will take steps to provide for an asylum for the mentally unbalanced, for whom there is no accommodation at present.
The ladies told General Wauchope of the deplorable conditions of the many unbalanced in Palestine.
