Stricter control over persons wishing to settle here in the capitalist classification is to be carried out by the Department of Immigration, according to Falastin, Arab daily.

The department is said to be aware of many cases of persons entering the country by borrowing the requisite minimum £1,000 to enable them to qualify under the capitalist category, submitting their application and having it approved, and then, after their permit for permanent residence has been issued, repaying the loan of £1,000 to the owner, plus an interest charge.

The department will cause the status of such persons to be investigated some time after the applications have been approved, and if they have been found to misrepresent their financial position they will be liable to prosecution as well as deportation, it is said.
