Complying with the request of Rabbi Edward T. Sandrew, of Congregation Ahavai Shalom, the Portland school board has decreed that Jewish students may register on September 6 and 7 rather than on the regular enrollment dates, September 10 and 11.
Rabbi Sandrow requested the action because the registration dates fall on the Jewish New Year. The board’s act followed favorable recommendation by the educational committee.
