Jewish Diplomat Prominent in Chile

Benjamin Cohen, Jewish diplomat who represented the Chilean government in recent negotiations concerning Chile’s neutrality in the war between Bolivia and Paraguay, is an important figure in Chile’s foreign ministry.

Cohen was born in Chile and for some time was a member of the country’s diplomatic corps in the United States. He was prominent at several Pan-American congresses.

He also is an active participant in general Jewish and Zionist activities, having taken part in the first Jewish congress held here a short time ago. He is considered one of Chile’s foremost journalists and was for a long time on the editorial staff of El Mercuric here.
