In an address to the workers at the meeting M. Waldman explained the working of the contract containing the demands of the union and declared that in view of the general reduction of hours in all industries the union demand for forty-eight hours was certainly within reason.

He also pointed out that the compulsory closing of stores at a standard time, to be uniformly enforced, would benefit the employers as well as the workers and give them more leisure.
