Jacob Greenberg, for several years director of foreign languages in the New York City junior high schools, yesterday took office as associate superintendent, to which post he was elected Wednesday evening at a meeting of the Board of Education.
Mr. Greenberg will fill the vacancy created when Dr. Harold G. Campbell became Superintendent of Schools last February. The choice of an associate superintendent has been on the calendar of Board of Education meetings since January 10, but because of lack of agreement on the matter the election did not take place until Wednesday, when Mr. Greenberg was chosen by a vote of 4 to 2, defeating Michael H. Lucey, principal of Julia Richman High School.
The nomination of Mr. Greenberg at the meeting was made by Louis S. Posner, Manhattan member, and was seconded by William J. Weber of the Bronx. Mr. Greenberg will receive an annual salary of $12,500.
