Negotiations for the purchase of a 15,000-ton vessel as the first step toward the establishment of a Palestine-Salonica line are under way, the Danziger Echo reports today.
Reduction of through traffic rates is also being discussed with the Greek Yugoslavian and Hungarian railway officials, the report reveals.
A Palestine – Salonica traffic route is considered by observers to be very desirable, providing the shortest sea route between Palestine and Central Europe and connecting with a short railroad route opposite Piraeus, and is expected to play a considerable part in Palestine tourist trade from Central European regions.
Such trade is on the increase because of visiting between Europeans and the members of their families who have settled in Palestine.
