Austria’s Jews were awaiting with concern today the outcome of overtures made by the administration to the most rabidly anti-Semitic element in the Nazi party.

Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg and Vice-Chancellor von Starhemberg continued new negotiations, which began yesterday, with Nazi leaders, among whom were Dr. Riehl and Dr. Ursin, Austria’s most notorious followers of Julius Streicher.

INSIST ON “ARYANIZATION”

These men are demanding complete “Aryanization” of Austria. More specifically they are insisting on ejection of all Jews from the Patriotic Front, ruling Austrian group, in which the Nazis will be included if their negotiations are successful.

They further demand “Aryanization” of Austria’s Fascist parliamentary bodies, and force able removal of all Jews who hold positions of importance in the Austrian press.
