The Christian Socialist party, the clerical group which is the backbone of the Fatherland Front, has demanded the complete expulsion of the post-war naturalized Jewish citizens, who, like the East European Jews who settled in Germany after the World War, are blamed for all evils.

Rumors of laws directed against the naturalized Jewish citizens have been rife for months. Government newspapers have urged revocation of citizenship rights of all who were naturalized after 1919.

Chancellor Schuschnigg has on two occasions stated that his government proposes to treat all citizens equally before the law. Subsequent events proved, however, that the Chancellor’s assurances were meant for foreign consumption and failed to prevent his government from carrying out fresh anti-Semitic measures.
