Indication that the government intends to enforce its newly adopted measures against foreigners in France, even if they are refugees from Germany, was seen in the raids yesterday upon the headquarters of the French Refugee Committee.
The raid was the second of the week and resulted in the arrest of a number of Jewish refugees who were detained for lack of documents attesting that they had entered France legally.
Police are now insisting that every refugee carry with him identification papers.
The opinion was expressed here today that the new French cabinet will approve the police measures against foreigners and will even strengthen them by special government order.
Thousands of Jewish refugees from Germany who see no way of ever settling themselves in any other country and who are not in a position to return to Germany are finding themselves, as a result of the new laws, in a precarious situation. Not being allowed to do any labor in France and not being permitted to take any of their capital out of Germany, these Jewish victims of Nazi Germany are in a state of despair.
