Following an address last night by Louis Lipsky, in which he stressed the increasingly significant part Palestine and the Near East are playing in the life of world Jewry, Rabbi Max D. Klein, chairman of the Philadelphia branch of the Zionist Organization of America, volunteered to head a special committee to conduct the Zionist Roll Call here.
An effort will be made by Rabbi Klein and his committee to obtain an enrollment of 5,000, the quota set for this city as a part of national drive for a registration of 250,000.
In his address Mr. Lipsky deplored the satisfaction certain elements in the American Jewish community derive out of mere palliative relief and expressed the hope that the day is not distant when these forces in the American Jewish community will realize that a considerable portion of the money expended on palliative relief, if invested in Palestine, would prove of more permanent relief.
Prior to the annual meeting Mr. Lipsky was the guest at dinner of a smaller group of leaders in Zionist activity who pledged wholehearted cooperation in the Zionist Roll Call.
Resolutions were adopted welcoming the peace pact between the Histadruth and the Revisionists, and recommended harmonious action in the appeals for Foreign Relief and Palestine rehabilitation.
Election of officers resulted in the following: Rabbi Max D. Klein, chairman; Robert M. Bernstein, Louis E. Levinthal, Wm. B. Leaf, Judge William M. Lewis, and L. Arthur Greenstein, vice-chairmen; Jacob Ginsburg, treasurer, and Jacob B. Hoffman, secretary.
